| I
was introduced to Michael
Ruff on my 21st birthday, that was 16 years ago. Since my introduction
to him as an artist my interest in his music has never waned.
Michael
considers himself an artist as opposed to a professional songwriter;
he writes to satisfy himself and not the market. A former child
piano prodigy who'd skip high school classes to jam in blues bands
with the likes of John Lee Hooker and big Mama Thornton, Ruff divides
his time between homes in Hawaii and Los Angeles, where he plays
50-seat clubs. Twice a year he tours Europe - and sells out 12,000
seat concert halls. He has been a keyboard player/backup vocalist/musical
director for Chaka Khan, Rickie Lee Jones, Stevie Nicks, David Sanborn,
Vonda Sheperd and others. His songs have been recorded by Bonnie
Raitt, Bebe Winans, Kenny Loggins and Hewie Lewis and the News,
to name a few.
Michael
has had a solid but private career as a musician and songwriter
which makes the opportunities to listen to him perform both rare
and special. For those of you who live here in Southern California
you can see Michael perform at La
VeLee Jazz Club (Studio City).
There
are some chat groups that have been started on-line. If you're interested
in sharing info or talking about Michael Ruff with other fans you
can either go to eGroups
or the Yahoo!
Club.
If
you're interested in seeing Michael's discography you can find that
here.
